Nicarargua

On Sunday we took a day trip from Costa Rica to Nicaragua via the Pan American Highway.

On the way we stopped for a typical Costa Rican breakfast of rice and beans, eggs, tortillas, plantains, and sausages that looked and tasted like hotdogs.

It was quite an experience going through the border into Nicaragua. We had to show our passports at 6 different security checkpoints and walk across the border.

We stopped at Lake Nicaragua to view two volcanoes, Catarina and Masaya, one active, one inactive. We were able to drive close to the active volcano and look down into the caldera to see the red lava flow. It was a sight to see.

After lunch we went to the colonial city of Granada and did sightseeing in a horse and carriage and visited a chocolate factory.

Finally we took a boat on Lake Nicaragua and saw several spider monkeys. Fun.
