Playa de Ocotal

Hurricane Otto could hit Costa Rica and Nicaragua tonight or tomorrow. It rained and was very windy off and on all day long. Our day trip to Nicaragua was postponed from tomorrow due to the weather.
We had an iguana and bird on the roof right outside our window.

Rincon de la Vieja National Park

On Tuesday we took a day trip to the Rincon de la Vieja National Park. The volcano is currently active, so the main path was closed to the public. We took a secondary path, but it was too cloudy and hazy to see the volcano from that viewpoint. We did see the bubbling mud pools, steam vents, and the waterfall. And we saw several monkeys swinging through the trees!
We stopped on the way back for lunch at a restaurant located on a ranch. We had chicken, rice, black beans, and salad, the typical Costa Rican meal. Delicious.

Ocotal, Costa Rica

We are in Costa Rica for Thanksgiving. On Sunday we flew from Atlanta to Liberia Costa Rica, then rented a car and drove to Ocotal Beach, 45 minutes from the airport. We are renting an apartment in a villa overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Today we walked to the black sand beach and had lunch at Father Rooster, a restaurant and bar right on the beach. The structure was built in 1917 and was originally a ranch hacienda.
